Soilmec SR-50 BFS
The SR-50 in BFS configuration is dedicated to carry out stone columns using bottom-feed method. Soilmec's vibro-treatment system offers the most cost effective and efficient method suitable for soft soils. This method derives from a ground engineering approach to very soft grounds, instead of piling, a compaction process is utilised to strengthen and control the settlement characteristics. The SR-50 BFS version has been developed from the SR-50 standard base carrier. It includes a hydraulic, needle shaped, vibrator mounted on mast, complete with bottom-feed attachment.

In addition an air compressor is located on the back of the turret and a stone filling system.

The vibrator hydraulically powered by the base carrier has 105 kW output and deliveres 181 kN centrifugal force at 50 Hz frequency. The vibrator capacity allows a depth of 10m. An innovative crowd winch system offering a 14m long stroke and 180kN crowd/ extraction force, increases the vibrator penetration capability.

The stone filling hopper moved by the service winch, is guided along the mast.  It can refill the stone tank located at the top of the vibrator string at any position.  The stone tank filling system (patent pending) is completely automatic and leaves the operator free for the other work procedures.

Compressed air is used as the flushing medium during the penetration process. Air is also used to control the gravel valves located below the stone tank and to push gravel through the feeding pipe to the bottom of the needle. The SR-50 BFS may be easily converted to the other technologies, such as LDP, CFA or DP and is considerated the most versatile rig in its weight class.
