In saturated and compressible soils, there might be important cracks due to the construction load above ground. These cracks cause expensive and critical problems. To avoid them from ever happening, soil consolidation and pre-loading works must be done. The problem would be that the pre-loading works forcing the underground cracks to close taking too long to complete. Usually the best soils for pre-loading works are clay and silt however these soil types are hard for drainage works.

Waiting for the consolidations to take place in big projects such as High-ways, Rail roads, Airports, Thermal Power Plants etc. would dramatically slow down the constructions.

Wick Drains are polypropylene fuses composed of flexible materials crafted with vertical channels allowing the flow of water. Just like a filter, these drains trap the water on them and dictate the flow of water above the ground. Vibrators are used in order to bury the Wick Drains.

These Wick Drains in the form of rolls are passed through probes or chucks then drilled until the necessary depth via. Vibrators. After the drilling the Wick Drain is cut leaving just enough space below the surface. The Vibratory mounted machine therefore continues to the next location until all Wick Drains have been applied. Once the drilling part is finished, the job site is compressed with loads. This way the underground water below the surface is lead upwards through the drains and led away through the waterways.
