The 20th edition of the Geofluid exhibition was held in Piacenza, Italy from 1st to 4th of October, and had a specialized focus in the field of underground drilling fluids, geotechnical and special foundations, and tunneling. 2014 has been the year to prove Italians economical recessions with their fair activities. Samoter 2014 in the month of February has struggled a lot with questions like “Should it be cancelled?” “Should we continue?”.

At the end, it has accured with the support of the Official offices, without any attendance of the World leader firms. On the other hand, Geofluid 2014 has accured in 1-4 October 2014 with similar issues. While we were a attendee there, we have noticed there were no entrance fees. It was also easy to spot that the only visitors were Italians, and only the participants themselves were visiting each others stands.

Geofluid 2014’s biggest stand was founded by Soilmec. With the decoration, and the amount of machines they had on their stand made Soilmec the only remembered memory of Geofluid 2014.The Soilmec stand attracted the interest of visitors who could discuss their projects with the welcoming staff. All of the traditional and potential customers, both national and international, were able to appreciate the product range available, from drilling rigs to tooling.

This fair that we have also visited in 2012 had official numbers of; 10 thousand visitors and 350 participant firms. The number of visitors in a proof of the how much it has dropped comparing to the previous years. It was also easy to see from all the empty spaces, and the Italian Firms we were not able to find. From the attention visitors got from the stands, it was also easy to see that there weren’t a lot of people around. This was the 20th Geofluid fair. What was causing the struggle is, the fair was taking place in Piecenza Region. The region is void of hospitality infrastructure. Very difficult to find Hotels, far to the International Airports and so on. When these causes are added, foreign visitors and participants attend less and less each time.
